Band achieves II rating at Iowa State Marching Band Competition

The Walnut marching band, under the direction of Mr. Bill Kearney, traveled to Council Bluffs to compete at the Iowa State Marching Band Competition on Saturday, October 13th, 2007. The marching band competed as the last band of the day, following the Lewis Central marching band, because of the morning funeral of one of the member's father. If the pressure wasn't on to perform already by following other 4A schools, the Walnut marching band members also had to contend with the Lewis Central marching band watching from the stands, instead of exiting the field. However, this proved to be a challenge that the Walnut students took on with heads held high as they performed their routine under the direction of Dillan Hamilton as the drum major. As the band exited the playing field, the crowd was treated to a special drum line exit started by Derek Frahm and quickly picked up and supported by the rest of the drum line. This exit to the right of the field, ended in a pinwheel of the band members directly in front of the Lewis Central marching band, much to their delight. After only 2 years of existence, the Walnut Marching Band was excited to receive a Division II rating at the competition this year. Way to go Mr. Kearney and the Walnut Marching Band!
